Abstract: |
The present research proposes a social exchange view on individual creativity, examining how team-member exchange (TMX), independently and jointly with cognitive mistrust in supervisor, determines psychological safety within the work team and subsequently individual creativity. An experimental study (Study 1) and a survey study (Study 2), together, demonstrated that (a) psychological safety mediated the positive relationship between TMX and creativity, rated either by employees themselves or by their supervisor, and (b) cognitive mistrust in supervisor strengthened the relationship between TMX and psychological safety. The current findings shed light on creativity and social exchange research and provide implications for managerial practice. |
