Abstract: |
Do women champion new ideas at the workplace differently from men? What effects do their idea championing strategies have on the extent that they are evaluated as creative? We proposed and found that women are less likely than men to champion their new ideas autonomously, i.e. proactively promote ideas by bypassing organizational norms, rules, and established procedures. Drawing on the “creative prototype model”, we further argued and found that the effect of autonomous idea championing on creativity evaluation depends on both employee and supervisor gender. Specifically, when women champion ideas autonomously, their women supervisors evaluated them negatively on creativity. |
