Abstract:
Family owned business (FOB) is a pivotal component of the economy. Miller and Le-Breton Miller (2005) summarize that successful family businesses share four priorities which help them sustain competitive advantages and achieve long-run success: continuity, connection, community and command (4Cs). Drawing on institutional theory, we compare Chinese FOBs and U.S. FOBs under the 4Cs framework. We propose that the unique cultural and political environmental can affect the role of 4Cs played differently in Chinese and U.S. FOBs.
