Abstract: |
Task conflict between supervisor-subordinate dyad is an important but rarely tested antecedent of employee creativity. We draw on information processing perspective in terms of recognizing, accommodating, and integrating diverse perspectives to propose that vertical task conflict has a curvilinear effect on employee creativity. We also propose that the curvilinear relationship between vertical task conflict and employee creativity is stronger when individual power distance orientation is low rather than high. We tested these hypotheses by a sample of 211 supervisor-subordinate dyads working in southeastern China. Both the curvilinear relationship and the moderating effect were supported in our data. |
