Abstract: |
Drawing from the IPO (Input - Process - Output) model, this paper adopted multilevel structural equation modeling (SEM) framework to estimate the dynamic mediating mechanisms that link team leader emotional intelligence (EI) with team performance. Two mechanisms, team cohesion (at the team level) and individual perceptions of person-team fit (P-T fit) (at the individual level), in this relationship were examined from a sample of 64 team leaders and 194 team members in Taiwan. Results revealed team-level cohesion mediates the impact of team leader’s EI on team performance. At the individual level, team leader’s EI was found to positively affect individual perceptions of P-T fit. The paper offers an expanded IPO framework to explain the relationship between team leader’s EI and team performance from a multi-level perspective by exploring both team and individual level mechanisms. Implications to theories and practices, as well as insights to future research are discussed. |
