Abstract: |
Using an inductive comparative study of all players ever trying to compete in the Chinese instant messaging market since 1996, we develop theory about how and why intra-organizational coopetition emerges, evolves and drives the creation of new-to-the-world innovations. Dissecting the intricate process of firm-managed coopetition across multiple business units, we proposed that market and intra-firm selection processes jointly lay foundations for Chinese new-to-the-world innovations and that organizational capabilities of managing intra-firm coopetition and fostering employees’ innovativeness ultimately bring them about. |
