Abstract: |
In contemporary work environment characterized by change and uncertainty, employees must proactively manage their careers to ensure their employability. Based on job characteristic theory, social exchange theory and career construction theory, we developed an interactive model involving job autonomy, supervisor support and calling in predicting career self-management. With a sample of 245 MBA students in China, the time-lagged survey showed that job autonomy has a direct effect on career self-management, which is moderated by supervisor support and calling. Further, the three-way interaction suggested that calling is a significant variable influencing career self-management. Implications, limitations and future research directions are discussed. |
