Abstract: |
This study demonstrates how political skill, a kind of ability that can help employees acquire potential supports and resources in originations, exerts influences on in-role performance, activities formally required by the organizations contributing to successful organizational functioning. Specially, this research develops and tests the nonlinear relationship, as well as the moderating effects of job control based on the cognitive resource theory and job demand-control model. Using data collected from 591 employees in Northeast China, a U-shaped relationship is found between political skill and in-role performance when job control is high, while the relationship turns into an inverted U-shape when job control is low. Furthermore, emotional engagement plays a mediating moderation role in this process. The practical and theoretical implications are discussed, together with the limitations and suggestions for future study. |
