Abstract: |
Although employee green behavior (EGB) has become a research hotspot. This study focuses
on the underexamined relationship between the Big Five personality traits and EGB as well
as the moderating role of organizational green climate. Drawing upon situational strength
perspective, we argue the Big Five traits predict EGB more effectively under weak situation
where green climate is low. As predicted, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness and Openness to
experience positively predict EGB and Neuroticism negatively predicts EGB. Furthermore,
green climate negatively moderates the relationships such that these “green” traits are more
predictive to EGB when green climate is low (weak situation). Our findings contribute to the
understanding of personality-situation interaction in corporate greening field and have
implications for organizations. |
