Abstract: |
From a social capital perspective, entrepreneurs’ payoffs are embedded in and affected
by their institutional settings. Utilizing multi-sourced data from 785 Chinese
entrepreneurs, the study examines how informal institutions may influence their
subjective wellbeing. This study finds that generalized trust as an informal institution
is positively associated with entrepreneurs’ subjective wellbeing. This association is
moderated by other two informal institutions: occupational status and gender
difference. The study contributes to the entrepreneurship literature by analyzing how
informal institutions are related to entrepreneurs’ subjective wellbeing in an emerging
economy context, arguing that the happiness of entrepreneurs can come from trust,
which is enforced by occupational status and gender difference. |
