Abstract: |
In this paper we report an exploratory empirical research into a novel construct, Jiangyiqi attitude, that was recently introduced by Liang, Wu and Zhang (forthcoming at MOR) into the literature on Bao and Guanxi development in Chinese organizational context. We started by developing a measure of fifty items to constitute cognitive, affective and behavioral components of Jiangyiqi attitude construct. The measure was then applied to 119 undergraduate students in China to examine its validity. Exploratory factor analysis suggested an eight-item measure are more parsimonious than a 15-item measure. The eight-item, three component structure measure is supported by the results from confirmatory factor analysis using measurement model of structural equation modeling. Convergent validity was also checked through the significance covariance that these three factors have with a direct, overall measure of individual’s attitude, as well as through a second order confirmatory factor analysis. Acceptable level of convergent validity was achieved. It was also founded that cognitive component is a weak indicator of Jiangyiqi attitude, which affective and behavioral components are strong indicators of Jiangyiqi. Given the preliminary nature of our research, especially no previous empirical evidence to compare, scholars are suggested to use caution to interpret our results. |
