Abstract: |
The present study explores the role of CEO calling and CEO power in firm ambidextrous activities and innovation performance. Based on the data from 212 small- and medium-sized high-tech companies, we find that CEO calling is positively associated with firm innovation performance, which is mediated by ambidextrous innovation activities. Moreover, CEO power moderates the relationship between CEO calling and ambidextrous innovation activities as well as substitutes the indirect effect of CEO calling on firm innovation performance, such that these relationships are stronger when CEO power is low. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed. |
