Leader Emotional Intelligence Promotes Team Voice: Mechanism and Boundary Conditions

Abstract:
      We explored the team-level theoretical model, in that team leader emotional intelligence (EI) promoted team voice. Taking 49 teams as a sample and using two-wave survey data, we found that team leader EI contributed to high quality of leader-leader exchange with his or her boss (LLX), and therefore motivated team voice. Furthermore, the indirect effect of leader EI on team voice was stronger when the team had a high level of positive affect climate. In this paper, we extended the consequence of leader EI to team voice and introduced manage up perspective to further explain the mechanism. Specific implications for theory and practice are discussed.
