| Hybrid organizations defined as organizations that incorporate elements from different institutional logics. Social enterprises as good example of hybrid organization combine the competing demands of the market logic and the social welfare logic are gaining widespread acclaim in modern societies. This paper combines the theory of identity and institutional logic through an inductive comparative case study of China aged-care social enterprises embedded in competing social welfare and commercial logics. We show that (1) How Chinese entrepreneurs deal with the competing institutional logics. (2) How commercial and social welfare logics evolve within an organization according to entrepreneurs’ identity change at different stage. (3) How the mechanism of entrepreneurs identity evolution. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of how social enterprise created in China and how those entrepreneurs deal with the competing logics. We also contribute to the identity theory and institutional theory by finding the evolution of identity. |
