Beyond empowerment: The roles of perceived insider status and outcome expectation

Abstract:
      This study aims to provide a more complete understanding of the processes through which empowering leadership influences taking charge by considering the mediating influence of perceived insider status, as well as that of psychological empowerment, and the moderating influence of outcome expectation. Data collected from a sample of 179 employees and their supervisors with a temporally lagged design showed that while perceived insider status mediates the relationship between empowering leadership and taking charge, the mediating influences of psychological empowerment is positive when outcome expectation is high but negative when outcome expectation is low.
