Abstract:
Although previous researches have explored the influences of servant leadership on job satisfaction and family satisfaction, the way in which servant leadership facilitate employees’ life satisfaction has been neglected. Since life satisfaction is crucial for individual’s subjective well-being, drawing on broaden-and-build theory, the present study investigated the relationship between servant leadership and life satisfaction through the mediating role of workplace positive affect, as well as the moderating roles of collectivistic orientation and general self-efficacy. Using a sample of 304 employees in a two-wave survey, the results revealed servant leadership was positively related to employee life satisfaction, and workplace positive affect served as a mediator between them. Moreover, collectivistic orientation and general self-efficacy moderated the relationship between servant leadership and workplace positive affect, as well as the indirect effect of servant leadership on life satisfaction via workplace positive affect. The theoretical and managerial implications of these findings were further discussed.
